10TH ANNUAL WICE-HART TOURNEY 8/3/07 - 8/5/07

Latest update as of 8/5/07

Below were the results for our "Bat Attitude" team sponsored by Fox's Pizza Den (Franklin) & Kool Kat Promotional Products

GAME RESULTS

Friday 8/3

Game 1 (5:00 p.m.) -- vs. Oil City "Double Play" -- Bat Attitude wins 9 - 3 -- Bat Attitude keeps team tradition alive by winning its first game of the tournament.  A great Bat Attitude seven-run first inning shattered Double Play's confidence as they had difficulty getting their offense in gear for the remainder of the game, thanks to excellent defense and superb pitching.  Bat Attitude ace Taylor Smith went the distance and recorded 9 strikeouts, while only giving up 2 hits and 2 walks.  Contributions by every player on the team, including our youngest players, brought a lot of smiles to the fans & their teammates -- a TOTAL TEAM win !!  Notable hits by Taylor Smith, Kendra Turner, and Kendall Dickson kept the offense always threatening, and helped erase any runs scored by Double Play.  The Bat Attitude machine is now in motion -- one game at a time.  Special thanks to substitute coach Chris Andrews for filling in and doing a great job at first base for this game !!  Click to hear what Coach Jeff hears a lot behnd the fence from opposing team strikeout victims after facing Bat Attitude pitching !!

Saturday 8/4

Game 2 (4:00 p.m.) -- vs. Northwestern -- Bat Attitude wins 7-4 -- Bat Attitude saw a few scary moments but was able to overcome a strong Northwestern Wildcat comeback attempt with a superb pitching performance by Ashley Miller, some nice defensive gems by Madison Bernarding and Kendall Dickson, and timely hits by Maggie Prorok, Elizabeth Miller, Chelsea Garris, Kendra Turner, and Laurel Smith.  Taylor Smith picked up a save with a great relief pitching effort in the final inning after starter Ashley Miller was removed due to a minor (but painful) injury; Ashley scattered 6 hits, struck out 5, and walked none.  Another total team effort with a defensive double-play in the final inning and great Bat Attitude base coaching pushed across the deciding runs to thwart any Lady Wildcat hopes of a comeback.  Bat Attitude is now ready to make its final approach to the semi-final game as we hope to land yet another victory.

Sunday 8/5

Game 3 (11:00 a.m.) -- Semifinals -- vs. MidEast Lightning -- Bat Attitude wins 13-0 -- Bat Attitude started off day three with an eleven-hit barrage to rout our sister MidEast Lighting team, who simply had a bad day.  Reliever Ashley Miller & starter Taylor Smith combined for a no-hitter, allowing only two runners to reach 3rd base during the entire game.  Stellar defense and skillful baserunning added to the MidEast Lightning woes, and each Bat Attitude player, from youngest to oldest contributed to the team win!

Game 4 (3:00 p.m.) -- Championship -- vs. Franklin -- Franklin wins 6-2 -- Despite several good comeback attempts from a never-say-die Bat Attitude squad, several defensive miscues and somewhat silenced "weapons of mass destruction" allowed a much-improved & worthy Franklin team to maintain an early lead for the win.  Notably, Maggie Prorok & Cassie Offi each had key singles, and Ashley Miller had a double.  Pitching performances by Ashley Miller and Taylor Smith were very strong, but Franklin bats eventually found their way around Bat Attitude traditional strengths.  This game was lost but the Bat Attitude ladies are NEVER losers -- many of which will be looking forward to a rematch next season!  Be proud ladies -- you've earned tremendous respect from everyone for what you've accomplished !!  Special mention and thanks to Chris Andrews, who generously donated his coaching efforts during the necessary absence of our other coaches, Mike Dickson & Paul Krepps.
